You should prepare to encounter all four seasons on every hike. With that in mind, we recommend you pack sunscreen, hiking boots, a wide brim hat, a rain jacket, waterproof pants, and a fleece hat and gloves in addition to your usual hiking gear. If you are visiting us during the rainy season, you’ll want to pack double the amount of clothes as the number of days of your trip in order to avoid having to rewear wet garments. Click here for more information on our location.

The best way to prevent altitude sickness is by drinking plenty of water and eating all of our provided meals, even if you’re not hungry. You should build up the altitude you go to each day, meaning that you should not expect to do Lake 69 after one night at the lodge. You can also consider getting a prescription for Diamox from your doctor before traveling, which should be started 24 hours prior to your arrival. Ibuprofen and/or caffeine can also help with AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) symptoms. As a reminder, we offer unlimited coffee and tea all day in the lodge restaurant.
-
Yes; however, the dog must receive approval prior to booking. If you choose to bring your dog, it must be a small, friendly (there are 3 Rhodesian Ridgebacks that live on the property), and non-fighting breed. There is only one pet allowed per family, and all families with pets must stay in the Pachamama Family Suite.

PLANE: Flights are available on www.latamairlines.com flights every day. Leaving Lima at 7:00am and returning from the CB back to Lima at 8:45am.
Unfortunately you Need to search on the LATAM website for “Huaraz” for flights to the CB. The airport is NOT in the city or province of Huaraz (HZ) - which is a rather ugly city with little to offer you.
If the CB is your question, HZ is most certainly NOT your answer.
The airport is North of HZ in Anta, Carhuaz in the valley of the Callejon de Huaylas, which is towered over by the CB. Anta is 30 mins closer to the heart of the CB than HZ. So backtracking into the city of HZ and its traffic, through the highest intensity of speed bumps anywhere in Peru does not make much sense.
A local taxi to CBL from the airport is 1:30hrs. Please arrange with us by WhatsApp. Fees are paid directly to the driver. 250soles in 2024.
BUS: Until the flight arrives we believe the night sleeper bus to be by far the best option, and is what we use.
www.moviltours.com.pe is the ONLY company I use. I have travelled with my 78 year old mother, my slightly younger mother in law, wife, kids and the British Ambassador and his family and they are all super happy with the bus. Its a no brainer!
Book the “PREMIER” - 180degree SLEEPER NIGHT BUS to YUNGAY (NOT Huaraz) - leaving Lima 21:00, it gets to Yungay early at around 07:00. We’ll have a taxi (70 soles cash - 2024 - to driver) waiting for you, 18km, +1000m Vertical, 45 mins of dirt road should have you with us by 8am, so you can enjoy breakfast on the lawn nestled under the highest tropical mountain in the world.
Returning from Yungay 20:05, getting into Lima by 6am, allowing you to get a full day in upon arrival. Also you’ll save two nights of hotel rooms.
Huaraz is at the wrong end of the CB, and as such is best avoided.
By night bus, a 4 night stay will give you 5 full days, instead of only 3 full days if arriving by car.
The same service above goes through the "Lima Airport Terminal" = Avenida Tomas Valle Terminal which is around 20 mins taxi from the airport, so is useful if flying into/out of Lima. I’d allow > hour slack time on Lima arrival times if booking onward travel. Get off at Tomas Valle if getting a flight.
I travel with earplugs or noise cancelling headphones, eyeshade and melatonin capsules, and sleep the whole way. No liquids after 5pm day of travel.
Movil Bus also has Trujillo-Yungay if arriving from or departing to the north of Perú.
DRIVING: WARNING: Loss of TWO DAYS to travel. MINIMUM of 8 hours drive time each way. You MUST leave Lima BEFORE 04:00, or spend HOURS in Lima traffic. If you arrive after 18:00 in the dark, you will probably never find us. You have been WARNED.
Dinner is at 18:30.
As we pride ourselves on privacy there are no signs to the lodge.
Before heading up the dirt road from Yungay - please have lunch in Casa Hotel Alpamayo, that way you won't arrive to the lodge hAngry, we all prefer non hAngry people.
The last 18km is dirt road. The quality of the dirt road varies seasonally, taxis drive it year round. You’ll need our GPS route, and an offline digital map, otherwise you’ll probably never find us. We are up route AN-827 from YUNGAY, take route AN-827 until concrete KM-17 marker post. On the next bend 100metres past this post, take a hidden left hand turn into an avenue of pine trees. After the 8th pine tree on the left, take a HARD LEFT out into the grassland, after several hundred meters going back into the pines take another HARD LEFT. Then continue STRAIGHT on until you arrive at the lodge.
Follow Google maps, Waze or similar from Yungay at YOUR PERIL.
You can rent cars in Lima, and we can put you in contact with private transfer providers.
TAXI TRANSFERS: Please let us know how/when you will be arriving to YUNGAY or ANTA Airport, we organise your local taxis, you pay the driver. Taxi prices in pour FAQ download.
We do not take a cut on taxi fees, we do occasionally piggyback your taxi for supplying the lodge. This should not affect your departure time.
